The Vegas Golden Knights are a professional ice hockey team based in Las Vegas, Nevada. They began playing in the 2017–18 NHL season and are members of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Golden Knights are the first major professional sports league franchise located in Las Vegas, and they have become one of the most successful expansion teams in recent history. Led by General Manager George McPhee and head coach Gerard Gallant, the team has set numerous NHL records during its short two-year existence.

In their inaugural season, the Golden Knights won eight of their first nine games – setting an NHL record for most wins by an expansion team to start a season, as well as becoming just the third team in NHL history to begin with eight wins out of nine games. They also went on to finish first overall in their conference, which was another NHL record for an expansion team. The Golden Knights advanced all the way to Stanley Cup Finals that same year before losing to Washington Capitals in 5 games.

The following season wasn't quite as remarkable but they still managed to finish with a 43-32-7 record and secure a spot in the playoffs while also making it back-to-back division championships.
