The Quebec Nordiques were one of the original six teams to make up the NHL’s first expansion in 1967. Originally based in Quebec City, the team had a lot of success in its early years, reaching the Stanley Cup Finals twice and winning three Division championships. The team also won two Avco Cups during their time in the World Hockey Association (WHA).

In 1979, after 12 seasons in the WHA, the Nordiques joined the NHL. During their 15-year run in the league they earned 8 playoff berths and reached the Conference Finals once. In 1995, due to financial difficulties, they were moved to Colorado to become what is now known as the Colorado Avalanche.
