ANAHEIM DUCKS HISTORY
The Anaheim Ducks are a professional ice hockey team of the National Hockey League (NHL) based in Anaheim, California. The franchise was founded in 1993 as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and officially changed its name to the Anaheim Ducks in 2006.
The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim were created as part of Disney's expansion into NHL hockey and were officially named after Disney's 1992 movie, The Mighty Ducks. The original jerseys were designed by Disney and featured the same colors, green and purple, that appeared on all of the characters' clothing in the film.
In their inaugural season, 1993-94 season, the Mighty Ducks posted a record of 33–46–5, good enough for third place in their division. The following year saw them improve to 39–32–11 and qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time in their history. In the playoffs they faced off against Detroit Red Wings but lost 3–2.
The next few years saw limited success from the team with no more playoff appearances until 1997 when they made it again to face off against Phoenix Coyotes but lost 4 games straight. In 2002 they acquired a new coach who would bring them great success; under his guidance they went on an unprecedented run winning 8 consecutive games (a record at that time).
The 2003-04 season was one to remember: not only did they set a new NHL record by winning 12 consecutive games but also won their first Pacific Division title with a club best 103 points; even more impressive is that they made it all the way to Western Conference Final where they unfortunately lost to Calgary Flames 4-3.
In 2006 they officially changed their name from Mighty Ducks of Anaheim to just Anaheim Ducks and received updated jerseys which included orange color as well as updated logo featuring duck footprints instead of duck wings which had been used since 1996.
